: During model A production did Ford produce more than one front motor mount yoke ? I have two yokes that have slots cut out on lower edge to hold springs in place. The few drawings I have seen and reproductions show two extended round pieces that hold springs in place on the lower edge of of yoke.Which yoke is correct?
Hi Fred,
Ford made several changes to the front engine support.
Originally, the front mount was integral with the front cross member. In Nov. '28 it was changed to the 3-point forged support. In Feb. '29 the support was changed to a cast steel part. In Aug. '29 it was changed back to a forged piece and was used until Mar. of '30 when it was replaced by a steel stamping.Along with this there were several different nut, washer, cotter changes and 5 different support springs were used.Because of these many changes, I'm sure there are differences in either the way the support was originally designed to accept the spring or they have worn in different ways over the years.
See the Judging Standards, Area 1: Engine Compartment for details on the springs, nuts etc.
John
