: What is a 1931 Phantom coupe? Such a thing? Saw a listing on the net and have never heard on this site any discussion of a Phantom Coupe.

Hi, Dean,
When I first saw your post, I thought of the three window Model A fiberlass coupe that I saw for sale in a street rod magazine (OK, its out now, I read those things sometimes). Anyway, "phantom" is what the street rodders call a body that someone either customizes or makes up from scratch in fiberglass that never was actually produced by the original manufacturer.Things like a "C-400" (that will jerk someone's chain won't it!!??) that is a '33 or '34 convertible sedan like an A-400 or B-400 only with a '33/'34 front and fenders etc.Seems like there are also others like 3 window '40's and late '30's roadsters that weren't ever really made but someone has designed them in fiberglass.

To add extra fuel to the fire, see if you can get hold of a Volume 35, Issue 4 (Nov/Dec '90) of "The Restorer". Page 11 has a photo essay of a '31 Model A 3 window slant-windshield coupe seen at the San Diego Nationals that year.Looks legit to me, but then again, you never know what all Henry had going on in his backroom!!!Try the STAINLESS STEEL bodied tudors or the pre-production "straight windshield" Victoria.Stories on these little gems from the River Rouge can be found in "The Restorer" back issues too.More like a "Ripley's Believe It or Not"
Hey any Model A, odd or common as a ten penny nail, we love 'em all!
John
