: Dean, omly one? You lucky devil. My last head came off with a 4 lb hammer and cold chisel in a hundred pieces with 6 broken bolts. Bummer!

: Were you tightening or loosening when it broke. If attempting to take it out then it presents a problem Because it is stuck. First soak the bolt with liquid wrench or some other form of panther pith for several days. While it is soaking walk by and gently tap the top of the broken bolt periodically.

: Get an easy out that is big enough to be hefty and drill a hole in the bolt, use a center punch to start so you don't wander off into the block. Insert the easy out and gently try to back the bolt out. This may take several days and still not work. I have seen people use vinegar in desperation but this is acidic so use your own judgement. If you should try vinegar don't let it run down the cylinder wall.

:If you don't have the patience to go through all this you can use a bigger drill bit and drill the bolt out. Use a drill just smaller than the minor pitch of the threads. This requires extreme care and should be done with a magnet drill press. Once the bolt is drilled out you can run a tap in and cut out the remainder of the bolt and clean up the threads. Or... just go get the helicoil kit and drill the bolt out and go in with the helicoil. I use this as a last resort.

: Are we havin fun yet?

: God Speed under 50.

: The Model A Fool.

: : Help,

: : I broke a head bolt off. It broke even with the block. What should I do?

: : Help!

G'Day Mike,
Beat me to it. That's what happens when pontificating off line for so long.
