: My '28 was running not too good, but it was running and would get me around. So I thought I'd change the points and condenser to see if that made any difference. I set the new points at .016 and set the timing.Nothing else was changed. Now it does not fire at all. What did I overlook? I've gone through it all a couple of times and am puzzled.
: I'd be glad to hear from someone about this.

Peter,
I think it is safe to say that something changed as a result of changing the points and condensor - now the trick is to find out what?Three possible areas to check are1. the timing 2. the connection between the lower and upper distributor plates and 3. the condensor connection.

One quick way to eliminate 2 and 3 is to get a voltmeter (or test light) and with the dist cap and body off turn the engine over so the points are OPEN.With the key ON check to see if you have 6 volts at the points (on the arm, not the adjusting block)If you do it's a good bet the ignition system is functioning, but is probably out of time do to the removal of the cam when you changed the points.
If you DON'T get 6 volts at the points, then you should check for a short somewhere.Maybe the wire between the top and bottom plate or it could be the condensor is too long and it may cause the bottom plate to short out against the wall of the dist body.

Good hunting
Doug
