On any vehicle the running light to rear must be red by law. The only white to rear allowed is the license plate illumification which must be diffused. The stop light can be amber which is what you see on the Model A. The same is true on marker lights on the side of trailers, trucks and heavy equipment. All the marker lights on the side of the equipment are amber with the exception of the extreme rearmost which is red. This universal arangement allows for uniform recognition of the direction or orientation of the vehicle.

The amber is really quite visible on the A. More so I believe than an additional red above the running light. I use a larger 6 volt bulb than is standard for my tail because I only have the single tail lamp that Henry installed and a little more candlepower is comforting. In addition it casts a little more white light down on the pavement so I can visually check in my outside mirror and verify that I in fact have a tail light burning by looking at the pavement under the rear bumper.

Hope this has cast a little light on the subject.

God speed under 50.
