: Is the gas tank filter screen actually necessary these days? When I put mine in, it interferes with the travel of the gas tank gauge arm. I can't get a proper reading through my observation window. I am thinking that with the filters on the pump handles these days...I could get away without using it. Please advise.

Hi Kenny,
I have both screens in my early 31 Cabby and don't have a problem. Do you need the screen it the top of the tank???
Don't know because I added mine for the judging in Dayton but know that the one on top of the gas shut off sure can help keep rust and other junk out of the carb...Can't hurt but only help.
Just my thoughts,
ken Schmidt
