I should add that you say your car is "original". If this is a literal term then the water pump shaft may well be to rough to hold packing for more than a few miles. The water pump rebuild kit from Snyder's with the stainless steel shaft will do nicely.

Fool.

: My opinion: My first car was treated to a double barrel A number one leakless water pump direct from one of the mail order houses which will remain un-named. Leaked.... My second car has a water pump that I rebuilt personally, using the old one from the Fordor, with a stainless steel shaft and packing (I use the graphite string) and I am well satisfied with the results. Every time I spend money on deviations from Henry's design I seem to be worse for it....Back to basics.
