: : John C My unrestored 1930 4-Door Sedan has red oak above and below rear window, but other attaching wood parts appear to be maple or a simular closed grain hardwood. It appears Ford used a veriety of wood species,or should I say the body makers such as Briggs or Murray used many wood species that depended on supply. I would suggest you finish the framework around the windows with a spar varnish exterior quality to protect the wood from decay caused by moister in this area.Ford must have sprayed black japaned paint on the wood when all bodies were painted black and then other colors top coated as needed. If the person you are doing this for wants original or altered, you may want to suggest he research for the correct finish on the wood. GOOD LUCK!
