: : My problem of the week on my recently acquired 28 Tudor is a very bad oil leak from the rear main of the engine.I note that the parts catalogue lists an aluminum rear mail bearing oil seal. Can this be replaced without pulling the engine or can it be done in car??Thanks for any information you may be able to offer.
: : Further note to those of you who helped in solving my condensor problem; I took the car for a 10 mile drive over the weekend and it felt great! Thanks again.

: Jim, you may wish to review the discussions of an identical problem that Walt had. This is a posting done on June 18 on this site. Many good suggestions and comments were made.Your problem is the most common one found with the Model A and B engines. As is discussed, there is no rear main seal as such.Pull the basepan, remove the rear main, and inspect the oil drain tube. Then inspect all main bearing clearances.Check the cork seal at the rear of the pan.Do this and let uscyber mechanics know.Best of Luck!!

Jim,

Without knowing if this is a recent problem or an ongoing one, it may be related to something as simple as the cork gasket on the rear main cap. This gasket, and the oil pan gasket, work as a unit to seal the area around the main bearing. If your lucky that may be the problem.I think Jim is on target.
