: The Model A 'STANDARDS' call for the engine splash pans to be painted black. What would be the most authentic - a flat black or a gloss black enamel?Would this also be true for other engine parts such as generator, starter, carburetor, fan etc.?
Wayne,
You are going to have to paint the engine splash pans in lacquer for gas resistance. I would paint then gloss and not rub them out or with maybe a little flattener added if they are too shiney. The carb is dull, flat-type but not flat black. Read the carb section for a description of the finish. The Gen and starter can have more of a gloss, just remember what part you are finishing as to the type of finish it would have had at the factory.
