Jim,
Sounds fuel related and may be running on the gas in the carburetor until it runs out.Check the gas cap to make sure it is vented.Make sure there is good gas flow from the tank. If not the tank may be releasing rust and crud into the system. Check to see if the filters are dirty or clogged.
