: Is there an easy way to duplicate the Butler finish on your dash plate. Can I buff it with something to reduce the sheen and make a Butler TYPE finish?Any Ideas?

The original butler finish was done by plating with copper, buffing the copper with coarse emery, then nickel plating the copper. It was then lightly buffed to a dull sheen with visible fine "scratches" still visible from the emery buff.To duplicate this finish on a high-shine chrome-plated dash would be difficult. If you buffed or abraded the surface, the chrome would probably be removed and the nickle underneath exposed. The nickle could also be buffed, and might look ok if you're careful not to go through it to the copper beneath.

Good luck!
