: : Per Bratton's catalog

: : Raven finish is a "Dark Dye" mixed with oil. It's a temporary finish, and must be sealed by painting on exposed fittings.

: : That's what I think I know, and I'm stick'in with it (unless the judging standards say different).I don't have a judging standards, since I hate to damage my pre-conceived notions with facts.

: Like your humor, Bob..Ole Henry was full of special finishes, sizes and shapes. That's what makes the hobby so great. DJ, Raven finish can be closely duplicated by heating the head of the bolt to a dull red, below the annealing temperature, and immersing the fastener in used engine oil.Makes 'em loog great, and they won't rust for a long time..Larry.

yes the gun blueing finish will work well if coated with some type of coating.also known at some plating shops as black oxide finish
