: : I've had black powder-coated wheels on my 29 CCPU for 3 years and there is not a chip or loose lug. They are a snap to clean. Love them.If you live near central Calif, Visalia Powder Coating will sandblast and powder-coat for $25/wheel. They even did a small weld repair at the same price!

: How badly pitted can the wheels be? Do they have to be nearly perfect? Also how glossy is the finish?

Tony, powder coating is very much like painting with the exception that the coating is baked on and the adhesion is almost complete. The finish is as glossy as new paint and STAYS that way. I have a friend that has orange wheels on a '28 named Fred that were powder coated years ago and they shine like a new penny. Now the bad news. Like paint powder coating hides nothing. It does a good job of making rust pits on the inside of the rim look like pretty rust pits. But they are still there. Anything you don't want seen will have to be repaired. Here's the rub. Repair with metal. Mig welding preferred. No lead, bondo or spot putty under powder coating. In fact the baking process will more than likely pop it off in the oven. Or so the powder coater that did my rims indicated. So I fixed 'em and he coated 'em and I'm a happy camper!!!!
Another added bonus is the inside of the rims are so smooth no more duct tape to protect the tube. Smooth as a spanked babie's ....

God speed under 50.
