Wow, do I ever agree with you; those repro ammeters are really bad news!Even if they work (and yours didn't), they don't fit right, the bezel is wrong, the numeral "1" on the "10" is the wrong font (supposed to be sans-serif instead of a serif font), the inside is supposed to be painted black, etc.

I had good luck restoring an original; the bezel shined right up, I used a repro's glass to replace the missing piece on the original, and I now have a nice, original gauge.They're hard to find, but they fit right and look right.

If you can find a NORS (New Old Replacement Stock) from the 1960s or 1970s, try it instead.They don't look exactly right, but the fit was good and they worked!Got one of them from JC Whitney in the late sixties and it's still working great!
