Joe,
After you remove the cotter key there is a plug about 1" long that screws out. On one side the plug will be followed by a brass spacer, the other side will have a spring then a spacer. I used a very large screwdriver to remove the plug. If the plug is hard to get out try a file (or other flat hard metal) and a cresent wrench. Put the end of the file in the slot on the plug and then use the cresent whench to turn the file.Good luck
