: I am considering buying a 31 A. If the car has matching engine and body numbers does it make the value higher and how much if any. Thanks any info on this anyone out there could supply would be muchly appreciated.

I've been the Model A hobby for many years, and I've never heard any premium being paid for "matching numbers."Actually, the engine and body numbers NEVER matched. When the engine was fitted into the frame on the assembly line, the engine's number was stamped on the top of the frame on the left side, just back of the first body bolt, hidden until a body-off restoration.

Several body types had body numbers from their manufacturers (Briggs and Murray made sedans that could have been numbered.)

In my experience, more than 1/2 of the Model A's I've come into contact with have had replacement engines over the years. When we restore our cars, we try to find an engine close to the original number, but if it's not going to be a show car, it really doesn't matter, IMHO.
