On the business of water in the oil - This is fairly common. Check: Head surface for cracks between 2-3 Block surface for cracks between 2-3 Check the head for flatness with a GOOD straightedge ditto the block. If there are cracks, any repair will be temporary in nature unless the affected parts are replaced. Some claim to be able to repair broken blocks - I remain unconvinced - especially if you want to use the truck. There's a lot of thermal activity that will open up old cracks eventually. If there are NO cracks, It wouldn't be a bad idea to give the head a light mill, pull the studs and clean the top of the block gently with a LONG smooth cut file. Then install NEW studs & a new FELPRO gasket using Copper gasket compound liberally on both sides and torque carefully. I'll let others comment on the other items - except that for a Driver, Hydraulic brakes are a GOOD idea for safety reasons. Bob Carabbio |
