That proves the old Model A adage that nothing beats a good original! (Unless you want a 30 amp one for an alternator!)
I usually see a few original ampmeters at every swap meet - they don't seem rare and usually work. Some times parts from several can be combined to make one good-looking one, and they do fit the dash better than the repros.
