: I am thinking of using a valve that has a straight stem. This would make it possible to use a solid valve guide. Does anyone know of a substitue valve and solid valve guide? If so, where can I buy it? Thanks!

Hi Leo, I have a friend who has done this in his A, here arehis recommendations, you can use whatever brand you can find in your area

Valve guides: Both brands are cast iron -
Sealed Power - VG 585
Ohio - G-880

Hard seats:
Martin Wells - W 505

Valves: These are all stainless steel -
Sealed Power - V 1558
TRW - S 2326
Manly - A-1445

Split keepers:
Sealed Power - VK 115
Pioneer PF 555 or (PF 555HD Heavy Duty)

To hold the split keepers use 1972 Chevy 350cu. rotor caps (make sure you use only the ones from the intake). Automotive machine shops usually have these laying around by the bucketfuls.
Use the stock Model A valve springs.
He has done this to several A engines with good results.
Good Luck,
-DAN
