At the Dallas club meeting this weekend, over 40 cars showed up, a few were "show ready" most were very clean, about half a dozen were visibly tattered older restorations.

One was a '30 coupe exactly as it would have looked in '46 when "A"s were worthless but fun - bright red engine, undressed welds all over the fenders, the top filled in with a metal sheet - primed (as was most of the rest of the car)in several colors and an indian blanket hiding whatever the seats were like (I used an army blanket on mine back in '59).

The owner is a young (20s)fellow who recently moved into town and the car is his transportation and has been for some time. The motor runs like a clock.

Guess which car always had a crowd around it-

I see "A"s occasionally in the $2500-$5000 range - running and driveable. It's all a matter of what you want.Show finish is nice, but you can't use the car and keep it that way unless you're a genuine fanatic.Mine won't be anything like show ready when it's on the road, and I'll have about $6000 - $7500 in it including the original $2500 I gave for the hulk to begin with.

The biggest single cost item will be the upholstery. The Engine, Paint, an overdrive unit, and the tires are other major costs.

Watch what you buy - like I tell the kids, a car that runs well is worth $100, but a car that looks good may run lousey and still bring $1000.

Good luck-
