: I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED A MODEL 'A'.THE PROBLEM IS I'VE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO AFFORD ONE.EVERYONE I'VE EVER CHECKED ARE AROUND 13,500 AND UP.WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IS IF THERE ARE ANY OF YOU OUT THERE THAT HAVE ONE THAT NEEDS TO BE RESTORED THAT WOULDN'T INITIALLY COST SO MUCH.I'M NEW AT THIS, SO ARE THERE PLACES TO BUY PARTS FOR THESE?ALSO,WILL IT END UP COSTING ME MORE THAN THE PREVIOUS FIGURE TO RESTORE IT?JUST ANY INFO IN GENERAL WOULD HELP,LIKE I SAID,I'VE ALWAYS WANTED ONE,BUT I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THEM. THANKS
Greg-
There are a lot of Model A owners who like to restore and maintain their cars and wouldn't want a car already restored, and there are owners who have others do all work on their cars.If you like to work on cars, then the A is a great car to learn about and restore, and there are still a lot of unrestored cars, or deteriorated older restoration-cars, available. Both used and new reproduction parts are available, of variable quality. From a purely financial standpoint, most experienced restorers would agree than purchasing an already -restored vehicle is cheaper than restoring one from scratch due to the cost of parts and labor. That works for some people, but I enjoy working on the cars myself, so I take the less economic route!I would suggest you join MAFCA (Model Ford Club of America) and receive their excellent magazine (The Restorer) - there are usually cars advertised for sale from all over the U.S. at realistic prices. MAFCA also sells books about restoration of Model A's, and has a website (www.mafca.com, I think).Good Luck1
