water pump impeller

I recently rebuilt a waterpump.I used a new steel shaft and impeller and the thrust collar to control fan endplay.I did not pin the impeller to the shaft as Henry originally did.Is this necessary?In the worst case scenario, what could happen?What would the best way be to pin it?What would you use for a pin?The SNYDER'S catalog says there is no need to pin it.BRATTONS says it is best to pin."TO PIN OR NOT TO PIN? -THAT IS THE QUESTION"
