: : I have a rebuilt engine (bored .060 oversize) and a completely rebuilt distributor.I have set the timing so thatthe spark for #1occurs just as the timing pin slips into the recess on the cam gear. With this setting the car starts very easily but it will not idle down so that I can "count 'em off."At 45 - 50 mph it runs very well at 3/4of full advance. If you run full advance, it hesitates and misses suggestingthat the timing is too far advanced.I have experimented by retarding the timing a little, but then it was very difficult to start although I did get the slow idle that is typical to the 'A."Otherwise gas mileage is typical and accleration is adequate.Any suggestions?
: I can't answer this question, but I have a related question. Can anyone tell me the dwell angle for setting the ignition points? Any manuals I have seen only give the point gap, which is difficult to set accurately.

If you have access to back issues of the "Restorer" you can find an excellent article on timing the Model A written by John Shepherd. He covers using timing lights and dwell meters , which should give you the information needed.I think these articles were published in the 88-90 time frame.

Hope this helps
