I didn't see the finish for the support block specified in the MAFCA judging standards, however it does say that the tail light "brackets" were painted black enamel. What this means to me is that the bracket was added after the body color was applied making it unlikely that the support block was painted body color. I would guess that the woodblock was probably treated the same as some of the other structural pieces of wood- flat black wood preservative.
