: Has anyone tried the Nu-Rex electronic ignition.Does it work well? Does it seem to make any difference?

Tom,
While attending the Joint MAFCA-MARC meet in Tacoma a few years ago I had the good fortune to have a Model A to use during the meet.It was equipped with an electronic ignition system, I don't know who made the unit - but it looked real nice.

On the morning of the grand tour, the "A" would not start. That was very frustrating because it couldn't be tested like a standard Model "A" ignition system.I used a test light (the only test equipment in the tool kit) and found voltage at the input. At one point during the testing, I heard the transistors start to oscillate intermittently.Once I knew the system at least worked, we looked closer. It turned out to be a loose ground connection.

The repair was made and the Model "A" ran fine, and we had plenty of time to make the tour.So from my limited experience I can say that the eletronic ignition worked fine.

My concern is that this is not repairable on the side of the road in east gumshoe,USA.We do a lot of touring in our A's, and one thing you notice is how easy it is to find parts for a stock model A.When you start to modify them, you decrease your chances of find replacement parts. We've been lucky on our tours, all of our A"s are in great touring condition and only once did we run into a problem that required a major repair (a broken piston), and we found a source of parts only 5 miles away...and that was in farm country in Quebec. So we are big on keeping things the way Henry made them, well maybe a little help here and there, but mostly things are stock.
I'm not sure I've helped, so send e-mail if you'd like to continue the conversation.

Doug
