Timely, Ken.I just found 4 original 3x plugs Saturday at the home of a friend who collects Model T's. He just gave the 3x's to me since his T's use X plugs. I gave them a bath of WD-40 and waited about 5 minutes.I put the plug into a vice and took a 13/16 deepwell socket to the top nut.A couple of gentle tugs and the nut came loose, allowing me to take them apart.

I cleaned that nut and it's threads on a wire wheel to clean up the gunk; then I took a real small wire brush and reached into the inner threads and cleaned them too.I assembled the two metal pieces without the porcelain piece by hand a couple of times to work the remaining gunk out of the threads.

Once the porcelain was out, more WD-40 and a rag buffed them up real nice.I used the wire wheel on the tire tip, being VERY CAREFUL not to ding the porcelain. Make sure you inspect the porcelain for any cracks - if there are any, they're probably not usable.

I'm going to take the bottom piece to my sandblaster friend and give them a good blast.Put 'em back together, gap them and off you go.
