: Just checking to see if anybody has tried this -

: The oil pump moves the oil and discharges it right at the point where the pipe fitting is at the skirt of the block. It then runs through a couple of slots cut into the pump body up into the center camshaft bushing area, then up the distributer shaft and forward into the front of the valve chamber.

: It appears that if the slots in the pump housing were brazed closed, and the pump housing machined for a good fit with an "O" ring, the oil would be forced out the fitting at the bottom of the block where it could be piped to a remotely mounted filter, and returned to the camshaft bushing area through another fitting drilled and tapped into the block about 1.5" above the existing one.

: What am I missing??

: Seems like an easy way to get full-flow filtration.

Bob, it would seem that you have given this problem much thought. The first thought that comes to my mind is why? I admit to being a purist, plain and simple. The engine in Mr. Model A recently turned 6000 miles on the clock running 30wt detergent oil changed at 500 mile intervals. I removed the pan and the side cover just to see what was going on inside the engine. CLEAN....

Every time I have tried something to enhance or improve on the basic design I stub my toe. My "modern" point plate resulted in a fit of temper in the badlands of Utah and the distributer remains there yet. After trying for two hours to cover ten miles I removed the "modern" distributer and replaced with a spare configured just as Ford made them. Ran like a clock. I threw that dist off of the tallest cliff....

A complete redesign maybe, the hotrodders do a good job in that department, but as for me I believe I will continue to enjoy the fruits of Henry & Companies imagination and put mine to other uses.

Just my opinion.

Mike Flanagan, The Model A Fool.
