Popout Switch

I have a new popout switch and key setup that I've installed on my 30 coupe! Car runs great when hot wired, but with switch installed there is no spark at the points. This is the first popout switch I've installed!The popout came with the car and was still in the original J.C.Whitney box! The key was frozen and needed a little WD40 to get it to turn! What is the word POPOUT in reference to? Should the key just turn? Or is some other action required? What does the end that goes into the distributor do? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!! Dean
