FordA or AA engines

I realize only early engines with Heavy Duty clutches were desig nated AA. Later all trans were HD and designated A.Only HD truck engines were AA. I have a 1931 AA.Is there any difference in the engine from a A. If not why would they bother to have seperate labels?
