: : If you're planning to show your car under MAFCA/MARC judging guidelines, take a look at the section about fenders and see if those bolts are specifically mentioned.

: : On building my show '31 Tudor, I consulted the book "Model A Chassis Parts" extensively for bolt/fastener finishes. For your example, I'd look up FRONT FENDERS and then find the bracket part number.Right under that, Ford listed the bolts, washers, nuts, cotters needed. The part number of each of these usually have a suffix, like -S1.There's a table in the book that lists each suffix and the finish that was originally on the part.

: : If you need further clarification, I'd suggest you write to the MAFCA Technical Director - his e-mail is: modasvc@aol.com
: : and ask him the same question. He can pass it on to the Judging Standards committee if he doesn't know.

: All the Model As I've seen, either drivers or show cars, had glossy black paint on them. This has been an area of controversy, so take Rick's advice, and contact MAFCA or MARC.As far as reproducing the black oxide look, heat the end of the bolt with a torch until dull red, and immerse the bolt into oil. This will give the bolts a nice dull black look and won't rust because the oil impregnates the steel. The original domed head bolts look especially nice.
