Dear Al,
I have a restored '31 Rumble seat coupe that I am struggling with the thought of selling. The car belonged to my father as two truckloads of seemingly unassociated boxes, bags and piles of parts. I was five years old when the "car" came to the family garage in 1968. Twenty years later, my father passed away having never done anything with that newshell of a car. Overwhelmed with grief and with the announcement of my sister finally setting her wedding date for nine months into the future (held off by dad's illness), I decided to surprise her on her wedding day by chaufferring her in "Dad's old car". I didn't have any tools or experience, so I decided to just cobble up everything, paint it from a can, you know, just make it move under it's own power for the wedding. Well,
I just couldn't do it... Dad would've done it right. I did the car up right, in nine months with literally 15 minutes to spare and no money except for a brand new visa card with a $5000 limit. Sweat equity they call it, I call it not sleeping for nine months. The engine was rebuilt by a pro and the paint work was done by a pro. I installed the Lebarron-Bonney kit, the wood kit etc. etc. etc. The car really is stunning in maroon and black with straw wheels. My company recently downsized my paycheck to the point of selling off all toys to keep the house. The 'A' isn't a toy...it's a family heirloom, but I'll look pretty strange living out of a rumble seat. The price is a million dollars, but I think some people may think that is a bit pricey, so I have to be willing to come down to something in the 9-10G range. I built a stunning color-matched trailer to haul the car on which I only have to wire the lights and brakes to finish. Tilt bed, chrome wheels, all brand new for an additional 1.5G. I suppose I could get a buck or two admission to see a grown man cry. If you would be interested please give me a call. (315) 636-8140 (Syracuse)-Jim Dunn
