From the book "The Ford Model A as Henry Built it" DeAngelis says that it was not until mid-May of 1930 that the new truck bodies started down the assembly lines.... A good clue for you to check out is to see if the gas cap is a 28/29 style (Threaded/screw on) or a 30/31(1/4 turn). One interesting item is that often times Ford used up the older inventory. But in 1930 he did use the 29 bodies and installed a 30/31 style gas filler..... (I used to own one)

As far as a serial number..... on the top of the frame rail just below the driver's side front cowl section a number should be stamped to help determine a possible vintage.....

1929 numbers were
Jan810,123 and finished December with 2,742,695
1930 numbers were:
Jan 2,742,696 and December ended with 4,237,500....

I hope this helps you with your neighbor....
