Engine Oil

I was told by the previous owner of my 1930 Model A to use 30 weight non detergentoil in the motor. I assume this was based on the original factory recommendations. Considering that oil formulas are now vastly improved, is there any reason not to use a multi-grade detergent oil? Any suggestions?
