Hi John..
I took my 12 volt GM alternator to an alternator repair shop, paid them 20 bucks to change the internal regulator to a "self exciting" one.That means the alternator will start working at a certain engine RPM.Then you can 'one wire" the alternator just like the original wiring schematic shows. Also, you should consider the high speed pullys that allow more alternator RPM and it also accepts the wider Model A fan belts.
