: We powder-coat a lot of the frames we do.Also a lot of the

: very nearly forever.

One of our members, Frank Palmer, powder coated his and Marith is right - it is virtually indestructible.I did a running board as an experiment and am two years down the road (literally!) and it still shines.Powder coat also doesn't rock chip as easily as wet paint.

The only problem I have had is with wheels.I did my 21" wheels and some cracked at the hub.I stripped down the cracked wheels - no mean feat once they have been powder coated.Anybody who doubts its durability should try and get it off!Once clean I used a nondestructive testing technique - dye penetrant to expose cracks not visible to the naked eye.I found four more, welded all of them and the wheels are great.

I think it is the heating process that opens up the cracks. If I do more, I will do a dye pen test right after sandblasting.

What can we fill rust pitting with that will allow powder coating?
