: The Model A is generally easy to start. Basically, there are only two things you need to focus on--1) Carburetor, and 2) Ignition.Tell us more about your carb. What was it like to begin with and what did you do to it?Unless it has been completely disassembled and all the passages drilled out, I wouldn't have much faith in it.Don't attempt it unless you have expert guidance.

I have a completely rebuilt engine in my roadster. It seems to idle more smoothly as it gets worn in.I've had trouble with flakes of old gasoline "varnish" getting into the carb.Cleaning it regularly seems to help.My biggest embarrassment was the choke rod mixture adjustment. After struggling with a rough idle for a long time, I experimented with this adjustment by running it through a much wider range of turns than I thought I should.Lo and behold, it idles just great with it about three turns open.

Do you have a Model A club, locally?Generally, you can get lots of help from the members.
: :You will have to drive your car about 500 miles to break in the engine before you can get it to run right. You can tell when the rings seat in and you have more power. You should check the polarity of your coil with a #2 leadpencil.Hold it between the copper connector and the spark plug with the engine running. The bright flash should be from the pencil lead to the spark plug.If not reverse coil connection wires.
: : : I'm trying to find some restorers who have experience in getting a rebuilt Model A engine to run right. My engine has been completely gone through, and it's pretty tight, and hard to start and keep running.Timing the ignition has been ahassle, and perhaps someone out there has had the same experience, and could help me.I have converted the ignition to 12 volts, negative ground with an alternator, but that shouldn't cause any problems.
