One way is to look at the serial numbers on the engine.

Engine SN 4237501 thru 4826746 were built from Jan. 1931 thru Oct. 1931.Engines continued to be built up to 1933.
A prefix "AA" meant it was for a heavy duty truck.

Hope this helps some...

: I have just purchased a 1931 Model A fordor sedan with a tilt or slant front window. The car came complete with the exception of the motor. The individual I purchased the car from has several motors to choice from, but the problem is I must select an engine within the next 7 days and I have been unable to locate any information pertaining to the engine to help me make my selection. Can someone tell me what I should look for in a 4 cylinder engine that would help me select a 1931 engine and its components. Also, I need to find a location that sells shop and restoration guides.Posted 8/13.
