: Need help.....
: engine runs rough at medium to high speed....skips... no power..
: Have replaced & cleaned all carb parts,good fuel flow,float adjusted,no gasket leaks,new condenser,points cleaned & set,timed,
:no air leak in windshield wiper line, idles great.... when choke is slowly pulled out at high speed, no increase in performance. I give up.......
: Thanks in advance........ Chris

Hi Chris,
As you may know, the ignition system is normally the first thing to check i.e. weak spark, timing, floating points due to a weak spring etc.Once assured that spark is strong and timing is properly set without excessive backlash in the distributor cam or timing gear, move on to the fuel system.
I had a problem several years ago similar to your symptoms. The car which could normally cruise at 50+ would not go much more than 35.The problem turned out to be a PARTIALLY clogged fuel line.Fuel flow SEEMED normal at the carb, but the "A" sucks quite a bit at higher rpm's.Rust had collected at the bottom of the fuel tank at the shut off valve.Chunks in the sediment bowl are indicators. Have you checked the flow at the carb? - it should pour out.Connecting a piece of hose to the fuel line at the carb and blowing air back toward the tank may dislodge some particles - at first I felt resistance then poof! I felt it clear. When I disconnected the hose, fuel poured out.I installed one of those aftermaeket screens into the shutoff valve which also sticks up into the tank about 1/2" so that the screen doesn't get clogged as easily.Hope this helps.
